It’s two years since we picked up the keys for Drakestone Cottage in the Northumberland National Park. The cottage had stood empty for a long time and was in a sorry state. However, we loved the area and knew we could turn the cottage into a nice place to stay – and it was here that the Karen’s Kottages journey began!
We had a lot to do – renovate and furnish the cottage, create a name for the cottage and the business, build a website, set up social media, pricing, marketing… the list was endless. Although we had a lot of business experience we had no knowledge of tourism or running a holiday cottage business so hoped it would be a success – and are delighted to say it has been! Thank you to everyone who has booked it and to those guests who have left lovely feedback for us, it is appreciated.
The photo gallery below shows what the cottage looked like when we first got it and during the renovations – and to see what it looks like now, visit the Drakestone Cottage page here.
Drakestone Cottage – ‘Before and During’
We have since added Stanegate Cottage in Hadrian’s Wall Country to our business and will hopefully add a third cottage during 2019. Watch this space…!
