Fourstones village, near Hexham in Northumberland
Situated on the Roman stone road ‘The Stanegate’ in the historic village of Fourstones on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, this dog-friendly self catering holiday cottage is in a great location for exploring UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall Country and the surrounding area including Kielder Water & Forest, the North East coastline and its many castles, the Northumberland National Park and Beamish Museum. There are great views of the Tyne Valley from the cottage and some good walks around the village, river and into the surrounding countryside. The village store is very close to the cottage and there is a dog-friendly pub that serves food under a mile’s walk away, with others within a short drive. The Hadrian’s Cycleway passes the front door and the attractive market town of Hexham is four miles away with a wide range of shops and amenities, an Abbey, golf course, race course and the Old Gaol, England’s first purpose-built prison, now a museum. Tynemouth and the coast are about 45 minutes away, and the cities of Newcastle upon Tyne and Carlisle are easily accessible by car or train.
