Out & About: in the pretty historic village of Warkworth on the Northumberland coast.
Warkworth is surrounded by the River Coquet before it enters the North Sea, the same river near Drakestone Cottage and one of the cleanest rivers in England. At one end of the village is an impressive castle (English Heritage) and at the other end is the church of St Lawrence with a 100-foot spire. Warkworth also has a golf course, a few shops and a good choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants for leisurely afternoons after a walk on its sandy, dog-friendly beach, which overlooks the RSPB reserve Coquet Island.
We can highly recommend the cakes and sandwiches in Bertram’s, a dog-friendly cafe on the main street.
Warkworth is about 45 minutes from Harbottle. For more Out & About, please visit the gallery on our website.
