The Drake Stone punctuates the hills surrounding Harbottle. The massive erratic sandstone boulder, believed in times past to be endowed with supernatural powers, was deposited by a glacier during the Ice Age. It has been compared to the Bowder Stone of Cumbria.
The Drake Stone can be seen on the crags from the back garden at Drakestone Cottage unless it’s full summer where trees can obscure it – it’s an enjoyable walk up to it where you get great views of Harbottle village and the surrounding countryside.
